The BT 500-IS-1 Cable Fault Converter is mainly used for converting high-resistive cable faults in signal, control and telecommunication cables into low-resistive ones.

Its source of adjustable voltage 0 to 2 kV has a balanced output, i. e. a faulty pair of wires can be connected to its output terminal balanced to earth (ungrounded).

In conjunction with a special Sheath Prelocating Device of type MVG 5, sheath faults can be pre-located. Using this accessory device, the following measurements can be taken:

Sheath fault prelocation on shielded telecommunication and control cables with PVC or PE-type sheath.
Sheath fault prelocation on shielded medium-high voltage cables with PVC sheath (test voltage up to 2kV )

Pin pointing is carried out by means of the Earth Fault Locating Device ESG 80-2 by the method of measuring the step voltage. Moreover our new Cable Fault Converter BT 500-IS-1 has some more special features such as:

continuously adjustable output voltage in voltage ranges 500, 1000, 2000 V
floating Potential at either outputs
protection against overload by voltage and current control
fault location at reduced power to prevent damages to adjacent wires or cables
indication of voltage and current by two analog indicating instruments
automatic discharge unit provides for removal of residual charge and for earthing the test object
clock-controlled operation of the voltage source to prevent the drying-out of faults when pin pointing sheath faults

Accessory equipment:

Earth Fault Locating Device ESG 80-2
Earth spikes with measuring leads EEB
Sheath Fault Prelocating Device MVG 5
Emergency-off switch NAG 1 for stand-alone operation
Emergency-off switch NAG 2 for operation with MVG 5
